The dialogue was sometimes unrealistic and rather modern in places considering the setting, and some of the thought processes/narrative was too neat and tidy. I agree with another 3-star review that there should have been more descriptions of emotion, eye contact, etc. and less telling. I like wounded hero romances and this one had a lot of potential to be really good, but it fell short. That being said, however, there were many places I laughed out loud and it was not a horrible read by any means.If you like wounded hero romance, try 'Simply Love' by Mary Balogh or 'One Unashamed Night' by Sophia James. It's ironic that in Someone Like You, Broc seemed more outgoing and carefree - not as set back by his injury. Hmmmm. Also, Leigh Greenwood is pretty cookie-cutter in these stories. Makes them kind of predictable. But don't get me wrong - I enjoyed it. I really wish publishers would have these books proofread after they go into Kindle format. By location 10 we already have our first error. The primary worm in the book is hollering at our heroine that he does not want "that man" on his land. Oops. It's her land, not his.Carruthers, our heroine's late father's partner, makes a very slimy villian. He is possive, devious and can justify anything to himself. He intends to marry Amanda and rescue her from the financial bind she is in with the ranch. Meanwhile he has her waiting tables and singing in his saloon. A real sweetheart.Amanda seems to be the only person in Cactus Bend with a real work ethic. She works all day on the ranch, doing her share and usually her brother's as well; then she goes to work in the saloon.The protagonist, Brock Kinkaid, had suffered a disfiguring face wound during the war. He went from devastatingly handsome to just plain devastated in a matter of seconds. His former career of riverboat entertainer was lost to him as well. He has gotten in trouble for brawling in public; to avoid the jail time he has agreed to collect an overdue debt in Cactus Bend. Yes, it's Amanda's family that owes the debt. But they have no record of owing anything.The other characters in the book are well fleshed out and interesting, from Gary the lazy brother to Eddie the tag-a-long baby brother to Mr. Liscomb the insane rancher, and of course Amanda's would be social leader mother who spends all her time dusting furniture and remembering life in Missippi, as a girl, as it never really was.It's a good read with a sweet love story and a turn and twist mystery all played out together.
